Hydrogenated Water & Brain Function

Hydrogenated Water & Brain Function

Hydrogenated water, or water that has undergone a filtration process (like Alkanatur) that has infused it with molecular hydrogen (H2), is more popular than ever. While it is well known for various health benefits, a novel area of interest lies in its potential to bestow cognitive advantages. Let's dive into some studies, and explore the current research on hydrogenated water and its impact on brain function.

The Antioxidant Effect

Free radicals are unstable molecules within the body that can damage cells. Antioxidants combat these free radicals, and studies confirm that hydrogen acts as a potent antioxidant. A 2021 study showed that hydrogen water inhibited inflammation in the brain, post traumatic brain injury! This suggests that there are numerous neuroprotective benefits, which potentially safeguard brain cells from oxidative stress, a well-known contributor to cognitive decline.

Enhanced Brain Performance

Some studies have yielded promising results regarding cognitive function after hydrogen consumption. Research suggests that H2 supplementation may improve memory and learning in animal models. Studies in humans have shown positive effects on cognitive function in individuals with mild cognitive impairments. However, more extensive research is needed to confirm these findings and elucidate the underlying mechanisms.

Hydrogen and Inflammation

Chronic inflammation is linked to various health concerns, including cognitive decline. Studies suggest that hydrogen has anti-inflammatory properties. As such, hydrogenated water offers benefits for conditions associated with neuroinflammation. Best of all, there are no side effects!

Important Considerations

The research on hydrogenated water is ongoing, and much remains to be understood. Much the same can be said for scientific understanding of brains in general. Studies have employed various concentrations of H2, and optimal dosage for cognitive benefits is yet to be definitively determined.
