Our latest certification

UNE 149101:2025, in plain English

UNE 149101 is a standard for water treatment equipment used inside buildings, including a pitcher. The 2025 edition updates the 2015 one we were first certified under, and our new report goes further: it tests for PFAS, including PFOA and PFOS. The water from our pitcher was checked in an accredited lab against drinking-water limits based on the European Union's (EU) Directive 2020/2184.

Our pitcher (batch 7/25) was tested by the Dr. Oliver Rodés Laboratory, with analysis by LABAQUA. After 120+ tests, the certificate confirms the water complies and exceeds the water standard.

UNE 149101:2025 certificate for the Alkanatur pitcher
  • Batch 7/25Alkanatur pitcher tested, certificate issued Oct 13, 2025
  • 120+ testsRun on the filtered water by an ENAC-accredited lab
  • 20 PFAS compoundsTested, including PFOA and PFOS
  • EU-based limitsChecked against EU Directive 2020/2184 drinking-water limits
UNE vs NSF/ANSI. NSF/ANSI is the standard most often used in the US and Canada. Our pitcher was tested to UNE 149101 against Europe-based drinking-water limits instead. They are different tests, so we publish the full report for you to read.

Under means the lab found less than it can measure. This report tested the filtered water only, so it shows what is in your glass, not a removal rate. For a before and after, see the trihalomethanes report below.

Water quality

Lab tests of the water that comes out of the pitcher.

Dr. Oliver Rodés Laboratory · December 2021

Complete water analysis

Water from an Alkanatur pitcher was tested against the drinking-water rules in force at the time (Royal Decree 140/2003, based on EU Directive 98/83/EC). The lab's conclusion: suitable for human consumption. No E. coli, enterococci, Clostridium perfringens or coliform bacteria were found. This report includes the bacteria tests and replaces our 2015 bacteria-only test.

Trihalomethanes, before and after

University of Vigo · March 2020

Trihalomethanes, before and after

Tap water had 35 ppb of trihalomethanes in total (26 ppb of it chloroform). After the Alkanatur filter the total was under 10 ppb and chloroform was under 5 ppb.

Minerals and pH

What the pitcher adds to the water, and what it does not.

Magnesium

University of Vigo · October 2017

Magnesium

Tap water measured 3 mg/L of magnesium. Water through the Alkanatur pitcher measured 18 mg/L.

Sodium

University of Vigo · March 2017

Sodium

Sodium in the Alkanatur pitcher water was 6.6 mg/L, the same as the tap. Another pitcher tested in the same study measured 17 mg/L.

University of Almería research group · May 2019

pH and acid-neutralizing capacity

Ultra-pure water and two bottled mineral waters were filtered through the pitcher. Their pH rose to between 9.3 and 9.7, and they needed more acid to bring the pH back down than before filtering.

Materials and safety

Tests and declarations about the plastics and parts that touch your water.

Health quality certificate

National Institute of Public Health (PZH), Poland · August 2025

Health quality certificate

The institute's Department of Food Safety certifies that the Alkanatur Drops set (pitcher, filter cartridge and water bottle) does not pose a threat to human health when used as intended.

Food-contact suitability

Institute of Ceramics of Galicia, University of Santiago de Compostela · August 2016

Food-contact suitability

The institute reports that the pitcher and filter materials are certified by their manufacturers as suitable for food contact. It certifies that the pitcher can be used with good results to treat drinking water.

Dr. Oliver Rodés Laboratory · November 2021

Plastics migration test

Water kept in the pitcher was tested under EU Regulation 10/2011 for substances that can migrate out of plastic, including phthalates, BPA and BHT. All were at or near the lowest detectable level, far below the EU limits (for example, BPA under 0.00005 mg/kg against a limit of 0.05).

Hormone-like activity study

Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) · July 2017

Hormone-like activity study

Water stored in the pitcher was tested in laboratory cell models for estrogen-like and androgen-like activity. The results did not differ from the controls.

BPA, ESBO and phthalates declaration

Alkanatur (manufacturer's declaration) · February 2017

BPA, ESBO and phthalates declaration

Our declaration that the raw materials and additives in the pitcher and filters contain none of 31 listed substances, including BPA, phthalates, PVC, PFOA, PFOS, lead and mercury.

PET bottle material declaration

CAIBA S.A. (supplier's declaration) · August 2015

PET bottle material declaration

The supplier of the PET used for bottles and preforms declares that it contains no BPA, ESBO or phthalates.

Shower filter

Calcium sulfite is a chemical many shower filters use to remove chlorine. This report looked for it in an Alkanatur shower filter.

Sulfite-free test

CACTI, University of Vigo · Report 19-cma-900

Sulfite-free test

An Alkanatur shower filter was analyzed by X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence. No sulfites were found in the material or in water treated with it, and calcium sulfite was calculated at under 0.3%. The lab describes it as a sulfite-free material.

Questions about our certificates

What is UNE 149101?

UNE 149101 is a standard for equipment that treats drinking water inside buildings. The water from the equipment is tested in an accredited lab against drinking-water limits based on the European Union's (EU) Directive 2020/2184.

What is new in the 2025 certificate?

UNE 149101:2025 updates the 2015 standard we were first certified under. Our 2025 report covers 120+ tests, including 20 PFAS compounds such as PFOA and PFOS. PFAS were not part of the 2021 analysis.

Is UNE the same as NSF/ANSI?

No. NSF/ANSI is the standard most often used in the US and Canada, and our pitcher was not tested to it. It was tested to UNE 149101 against EU-based drinking-water limits. Read the full report to see exactly what was measured.

Do these tests show how much the filter removes?

Not all of them. The 2025 UNE report measures the water that comes out of the pitcher and compares it with the legal limits. The 2020 trihalomethanes report compares tap water before and after filtering.

What does 'under' or '<' mean in a lab report?

The lab found less than its method can measure. 'Lead: under 1 µg/L' means no lead was found at that level.

Why are some documents not in English?

The tests were done in Europe, so the official documents are in the local language. Each PDF here is an English translation. Want a copy of an original? Email info@alkanatur.co.
