What makes ours different

No calcium sulfite. Certified.

Many shower filters use calcium sulfite (E226, also spelled sulphite) because it is cheap and works as a filtration medium. The vapours it gives off can be toxic. Alkanatur shower filters do not use it, and our carbon block was tested by the CACTI laboratory at the University of Vigo.

How it works

Two stages, no shortcuts.

1. Pre-filter

Catches sediment and larger particles (0.02 micron) so the carbon lasts longer.

2. Coconut carbon block

100% natural coconut carbon with pores up to 2 nm. We use twice as much carbon as most competitors.

3. Cleaner shower water

Chlorine, trihalomethanes, heavy metals, bacteria, excess calcium and nitrates come out. Up to 99% of chlorine.

  • Trihalomethanes
  • Heavy metals
  • Bacteria
  • Excess calcium and lime
  • Nitrates

Recommended by specialists

Skin and hair notice the water.

The quality of the water we drink and bathe with affects the cellular functioning of skin and hair. This is because water can contain more salts, as well as other contaminants such as chlorine, heavy metals and trihalomethane.

Dr Claudia Bernárdez, dermatologist and trichology expert

Since using it my hair looks shinier, softer and healthier. I am simply delighted. It is also super easy to adapt to the shower.

Andrea del Val, @almadelcaribe

The look and feel of my skin and hair have improved greatly, as has the peace of mind of reducing my body's absorption of chlorine.

Questions

Shower filter FAQ

What is the difference between the 30K and the 50K?

Same filtration technology. The 30K filters 30,000 L (8,000 gal) and lasts about 5–6 months, then you replace the whole unit. The 50K filters 50,000 L (13,200 gal) and lets you replace just the filter every 10–12 months and the pre-filter every 5–6 months.

Why does calcium sulfite matter?

Calcium sulfite (E226) is used in many shower filters because it is effective and inexpensive. The vapours it gives off can be toxic. Ours is certified free from it.

Will it fit my shower?

It fits standard showers. A plastic installation wrench comes in the box with both the 30K and the 50K.

What if the water flow drops?

30K: the filter may be clogged. Run water through it in the opposite direction to clean it. 50K: rinse the pre-filter. If that does not help, the pre-filter may need replacing.

When should I replace the filters?

50K: pre-filter every 5–6 months, filter every 10–12 months. 30K: replace the unit after about 5–6 months or 30,000 L (8,000 gal).
